This piece was done for the Dark Wood: Roots of the Fairy Tale show at the Krab Jab Gallery in Seattle, WA. The piece measures 21.75 x 26 including the frame, and was done in oils and colored pencils.
The text around the edges reads:
"And so was a lock taken from Medusa’s head to fashion a keeper for a Thane long dead. Prowling the dark wood where his form was lain, could you subdue fierce fangs for gain? "
The Barrow Gorgon was created from a lock of Medusa's head to guard the body and riches of a powerful Thane ‘s tomb. Good luck getting by them.
The Barrow Gorgon is a mixed media piece, created using oils and colored pencils. Keep it out of direct sunlight. This, actually, is good advice for all artwork. Only archival materials, including Conservation Glass (which filters out 97% of UV light) were used.
If for any reason the art is removed from the frame, take note of the orientation of the glass, as it has a right and wrong side.
